Who Is Considered A Super Speeder?

According to the Georgia Super Speeder Law enacted in 2010, a driver cited for traveling 85 MPH or more on any street or highway (or 75 MPH or more on any two-lane road or highway) is considered a super speeder.

What Are The Possible Consequences?

If you are cited for super speeding, you will be responsible for a fine of $200, in addition to the standard Georgia County or city fine associated with the ticket. The total of these increased penalties can cost you over $1,000 in certain counties!

If this fine is not paid within 90 days of your conviction, your license is automatically suspended and you will then be faced with a reinstatement fee in addition to the ticket fines. All drivers, whether residents of the state of Georgia or just passing through, are responsible for these fines if convicted.

There are other far-reaching, long-lasting effects associated with a super speeder conviction of which you may not be aware. Similar to a reckless driving conviction, a super speeder conviction is considered a criminal misdemeanor, which will be reflected on your criminal record, viewable by anyone who would run a criminal background check on you.

You may be required to complete a driver’s education course, at your cost, and will receive points on your license. If you are under 21, a super speeding conviction results in the automatic suspension of your driver’s license for six months. Additionally, all drivers convicted of super speeding face increased insurance rates and even the possibility of being dropped from your insurance company, depending on your overall driving record.
